Настоящая книга представляет собой посмертное издание работ известного исследователя опричнины П. А. Садикова. При всем огромном значении опричнины, как одного из важнейших этапов в процессе образования Русского централизованного государства, что подчеркнуто в постановлении ЦК ВКП(б) от 4 сентября 1946 г. о кинофильме «Боль- шая жизнь», Опричнина до сих пор принадлежит к числу наименее разработанных вопросов истории России XVI века. Одной из причин такого положения дел является исклю чительная бедность источников по истории опричнины, что чрезвычайно осложняет и затрудняет ее изучение. Исследователю опричнины приходится изучать ее, в значительной степени, по отдельным упоминаниям в источниках, по следам, которые оставила опричнина в тех или иных конкретных событиях, случаях или обстоятельствах. Лишь таким путем оказывается возможным выяснить характер политики опричнины по важнейшим социальным вопросам и составить себе представление об опричнине как учреждении.

Троицкая летопись.

Издаваемый труд покойного М. Д. Присслкова является результатом его долголетней, громадной и кропотливой работы по реконструкции текста Троицкой летописи, сгоревшей в 1812 г. в Москве вместе со всем собранием Московского общества истории и древностей российских. Погибшая пергаменная летопись, названная Карамзиным Троицкой летописью, была составлена в Москве в 1408 г. Это был первый обще- русский летописный свод, в котором нашла свое отражение борьба за независимость русского народа и за объединение Руси в единое Русское государство.

Soil mechanics and foundation engineering. Second edition

Popularity of this book amongst the undergraduate students and practising engineers has made the author to revive the book with updated materials. The second edition of the book comprises 24 chapters dealing with four components, viz. Basic Principles of Soil Mechanics, Laboratory Determination of Soil Parameters Under Different Field Conditions, Earth Pressure Problems Including Foundations and Advanced Topics on Soil Mechanics Applications. Chapters 1–9 deal with Basic Principles of Soil Mechanics. Chapter 1 deals with soil formation and composition, highlighting the types of weathering, soil formation in nature and major soil deposits of India. Chapters 2 and 3 explain the methods of identification and classification of soil including Bureau of Indian Standards, with the background knowledge of the index properties of soils. The basic properties of soils are compaction, permeability, consolidation and shear strength. Chapters 4–9 detail these properties. Principles of compaction and field compactions are explained in Chapter 4. Flow through porous medium and its applications are dealt within Chapters 5 and 6. Stresses in nature and applied stresses cause consolidation and failure due to shear. These aspects are dealt with at length in Chapters 7, 8 and 9. Chapter 7 details the different types of loading and the methods of computing stresses. Chapter 8 explains the basic theory of consolidation followed by computation of settlements while Chapter 9 explains the methods of determining shear strength of different types of soils under different loading and drainage conditions.
