International relations theory : realism, pluralism, globalism

This book takes a different approach. We make no claim to have covered every topic in the field, much less every writer or scholarly contributor. We do have four major purposes: (1) to discuss the underlying assumptions and images that influence scholarly work in the international relations field — images that we label realism, pluralism, and globalism; (2) to provide in the chapters and readings representative samples of theoretical works; (3) to introduce to the upper-division and graduate student key concepts used by scholars in their study of international relations; and (4) to encourage the student to scrutinize critically works dealing with international politics.

Consumer Behaviour towards Organic Food and Performance of Certification Standards

Predicting consumer behaviour in food markets is a complex task. The traditional demand analysis based on economic factors, i.e. price and household income, is no longer the best approach to model consumer behaviour in modern post-industrialised food markets, as food quality aspects now dominate consumer decision-making (Senauer, 2001). This food product quality is determined by multiple characteristics (Hooker & Caswell, 1996) or, as Lancaster’s (1966) utility theory states, is shaped by a combination of product characteristics (attributes) that determine the good’s performance relative to price (utility).

These have covered a wide range of polymer products (e.g., rubbers, silicone-based materials, ionexchange resins, laminate materials) and have provided the FSA with important information on the materials and manufacturing practices that are used in industry, as well as making an important contribution to the data, via extensive experiments, that is available with respect to the migratory behaviour of these products when they are in contact with food simulants and foodstuffs.
