Discrete Mathematics. An Open Introduction
This gentle introduction to discrete mathematics is written for first and second year math majors, especially those who intend to teach. The text began as a set of lecture notes for the discrete mathematics course at the University of Northern Colorado. This course serves both as an introduction to topics in discrete math and as the "introduction to proof" course for math majors. The course is usually taught with a large amount of student inquiry, and this text is written to help facilitate this. Four main topics are covered: counting, sequences, logic, and graph theory. Along the way proofs are introduced, including proofs by contradiction, proofs by induction, and combinatorial proofs. The book contains over 360 exercises, including 230 with solutions and 130 more involved problems suitable for homework. There are also Investigate! activities throughout the text to support active, inquiry based learning.

Discrete Structures for Computer Science. Counting, Recursion, and Probability
In this chapter, we introduce some problems that will be solved later in this book. Along the way, we recall some notions from discrete mathematics that you are assumed to be familiar with. These notions are reviewed in more detail in Chapter 2. Ramsey Theory studies problems of the following form. How many elements of a given type must there be so that we can guarantee that some property holds. In this section, we consider the case when the elements are people and the property is “there is a large group of friends or there is a large group of strangers”.

Elementary Abstract Algebra. Examples and Applications
This book is designed to make "Abstract Algebra" as down-to-earth as possible. Before getting into the deep theoretical stuff, we first take a look at algebraic systems beyond the real numbers that are widely used in practical applications of mathematics. These include the complex numbers, integers mod n, polynomials, symmetries, and permutations. We then use these examples to motivate and illustrate the beautifully general ideas of the theory of groups, rings, and fields. Along the way, we give applications to signal processing, cryptography and coding theory, as well as making connections with other branches of mathematics such as geometry and number theory.

Elementary Algebra
Mathematicians can give. what they consider reasonable explanations to the questions above. But any reasonable explanation imposes duties on both the person asking the question and the mathematician answering it. To understand the given answer, you will need patience. If you dislike Mathematics at the outset, no amount of patience or reasonable explanations will do. Some of the concepts that we will mention in the history section might be unfamiliar to you. The purpose of the section is to give you a point of reference as to how old many of these ideas are.

Engineering Materials 1
Innovation in engineering often means the clever use of a new material - new to a particular application, but not necessarily (although sometimes) new in the sense of recently developed’.

Elementary Algebra
Elementary Algebra is a work text that covers the traditional topics studied in a modern elementary algebra course. It is intended for students who. Have no exposure to elementary algebra. Have had a previously unpleasant experience with elementary algebra. Need to review algebraic concepts and techniques. Use of this book will help the student develop the insight and intuition necessary to master algebraic techniques and manipulative skills. The text is written to promote problem-solving ability so that the student has the maximum opportunity to see that the concepts and techniques are logically based and to be comfortable enough with these concepts to know when and how to use them in subsequent sections, courses, and non-classroom situations. Intuition and understanding are some of the keys to creativity.

Elementary Algebra
It is essential to lay a solid foundation in mathematics if a student is to be competitive in today's global market. The importance of algebra, in particular, cannot be overstated, as it is the basis of all mathematical modeling used in applications found in all disciplines. Traditionally, the study of algebra is separated into a two parts, elementary algebra and intermediate algebra. This textbook, Elementary Algebra, is the first part, written in a clear and concise manner, making no assumption of prior algebra experience. It carefully guides students from the basics to the more advanced techniques required to be successful in the next course.

Introduction to Corrosion Science
This textbook is intended for a one-semester course in corrosion science at the graduate or advanced undergraduate level. The approach is that of a physical chemist or materials scientist, and the text is geared toward students of chemistry, materials science, and engineering. This textbook should also be useful to practicing corrosion engineers or materials engineers who wish to enhance their understanding of the fundamental principles of corrosion science.

Elementary Linear Algebra
This is a book for a first course on Linear Algebra to be used either before or after an undergraduate course in Calculus. It contains all of the standard topics along with applications to other subjects. All major theorems are completely proved for the sake of any who are interested. Also instructions are given for the use of MATLAB and other computer algebra systems.

Sciences advance. But they can also recede. That is true of economics as well. By the end of World War II, the leading introductory textbooks in economics had lost their vitality and relevance.
