Первые работы по теории автоматическоrо реrулирования Дж. К. Максвелла и И.А. Вышнеrрадскоrо появились во второй половине 19-ro столетия в связи с проблеmой устойчивости работы систем автоматическоrо реrулирования паровых машин Дж. Уатта. Можно, однако, считать, что современная теория автоматическоrо управления как самостоятельный раздел науки образовалась значительно позже, во время BTO рой мировой войны первоначально как теория сервомеханизмов (в переводе на русский «следящих систем»)  технических устройств, предназначенных для управления руля ми кораблей и самолетов, антенн локаторов и т. п. Тем не менее, уже в первых публикациях по теории сервомеханизмов было постулировано, что эта теория приrодна TaK же и для изучения систем автоматическоrо реrулирования, применяемых в друrих сферах техники [13]. в последующие rоды понятия «сервомеханизм» и «система aBTOматическоrо реrулирования» стали рассматриваться под общим названием «системы автоматическоrо управления».
