Innovative Earthquake Soil Dynamics

Professor Kenji Ishihara is gratefully acknowledged for his long-time guidance and stimulation to date in soil dynamics since the present author was the graduate student in the University of Tokyo in 1960’s. Also acknowledged are a number of PhD, Master and Undergraduate students who were engaged in various research topics in the author’s laboratory in Chuo University in past 20 years and contributed to create huge database that this book largely depends upon. The electric power companies in Japan, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry, who supported the author’s research for many decades are gratefully appreciated. National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience, Kansai Electric Power Company, Kobe Municipal City Office, and Tokyo Electric Power Company are acknowledged for valuable earthquake records including vertical array strong motion data used in this book.
