Sie forscht und lehrt zur Arbeit mit Menschen in sensiblen religionsbezogenen Kontexten, die Gewalt-, Flucht- oder Krankheits-erfahrungen gemacht haben. Aktuell arbeitet sie an einer Studie zur Aufarbeitung der Missbrauchsfälle von Kindern und Jugendlichen im Bistum Münster an der Universi-tät Münster. Sie lehrt ebendort in der Kultur- und Sozialanthropologie sowie an der Fachhochschule Münster am Fachbereich Sozialwesen.

How often have you encountered a dream sequence in a work o f his­tory? One could argue that the whole of The Death of Woman Wang is a kind of projection, a series of speculations about the dim contours of life in a remote region o f seventeenth-century China, based on scanty evidence. B ut at least a historian like Spence can know that the woman at the center of his book did in fact commit adultery, whereas he could not possibly know what she was dream ing about just before her husband strangled her.

In manchen Schülern und Studenten haben diese Beispiele vielleicht sogar mehr Verdruß als Begeisterung geweckt. Unter den Konkurrenten, die vorangingen, ist Hugo von Hofmannsthal der mächtigste. Seine 1902 zum ersten Mal erschienene Anthologie >>>Deutsche Erzähler wurde zu Recht bewundert. Sie hat Maßstäbe gesetzt, und sie macht es allen, die ihm als Sammler von Erzählungen des gleichen Zeitraums folgen, schwer. Hat nicht er endgültig die richtigen Beispiele gewählt? Anmutig hat Hofmannsthal in der Einleitung seine Auswahl begründet.
